Useful information

The Old Post Office Cafe in Kincraig serves good coffee, excellent food and to-die-for tea eats. After a day on the hill, we enjoy tea and cake at The Barn in Rothiemurchus. They sell quality foods in the Farm Shop – we particularly enjoy the beef and venison on sale there.

We love the fresh fish we get from Pro Fish in the passage in Myrtlefield Shopping Centre in Aviemore.

You will get excellent traditional Fish and Chips at Happy Haggis in Aviemore (near the petrol station) and at Joe’s in Kingussie. No experience of Scottish cuisine is complete without deep-fried pizza followed by deep fried Mars bar!

Groceries Tesco.com undertake deliveries to Islay Cottage. There are well stocked Co-operative stores in Kingussie and Newtonmore. Aldi and Tesco have stores in Aviemore. M&S have a small outlet attached to the fuel station in Aviemore.

Fuel is available in Newtonmore and Aviemore.

Public transport: The 39 and M39 services between Kingussie and Aviemore run past the bottom of the road to the Wildlife Park: the timetables are here and here (Click the option to show all stops – the nearest stop is “Kincraig at Wildlife Park Road End”). There are regular trains to and from Aviemore and Kingussie from Inverness and the South. Taxis can be booked from Kingussie and Aviemore.
