Islay Cottage
We bought Islay Cottage in 2024. We have refurbished the property extensively.
We love Scotland; in particular, the Cairngorms area. There is so much for everyone to do.
The cottage is perfectly positioned for the many activities in the area, and is spacious enough for families and groups. Our cottage is positioned right next to the Highland Wildlife Park and Loch Insh Watersports, with Aviemore only 10 minutes drive away. The location is fantastic. We’re sure you’ll have a wonderful time staying here.

Tanya is mad about wild swimming and we both love mountain biking, climbing, hiking, skiing, and wild camping. The Cairngorms offers all of these. In the area there are all sorts of other outdoor activities including water sports, wildlife spotting, fishing, quad biking, golf, visiting historical landmarks, karting track, geocaching, a high ropes course, quad biking and clay pigeon shooting. The area also has a lot of places for children to enjoy: the Highland Wildlife Park and Rothiemurchus offer numerous activities.
There are loads of family friendly cafes and restaurants to enjoy. We have put some of our favourite places – and some contacts we hope you find useful – on our Useful Information page.
The cottage used to be part of the dairy for the old TB hospital and it’s full of character. Our Facilities page tells you what our accommodation offers. As it’s such an old building, the walls are super thick and can take a while to heat up and although there are heaters in every room, it may feel a little colder than you’d like – we just add another layer and keep the lounge and dining room cozy. Please note the Wi-Fi average speed varies. The rural setting of our cottages means that bandwidth is lower than most guests are used to. Please plan accordingly. We like to get away from it all so this does not worry us. We download movies or any documents we require before going to the cottage.

The area around Islay Cottage is wonderfully peaceful. The view to the Cairngorms is stunning, and a sunset enjoyed from the picnic table outside or the breakfast bar in the kitchen can be spectacular.
